6-8 October violence: Legal and social scrutiny 12 years later

Twelve years after the 6-8 October events of 2014, discussions continue regarding the violence and the subsequent judicial outcomes. The incidents, which occurred during Eid al-Adha, involved attacks by PKK-linked individuals that resulted in numerous casualties, including Yasin Börü and his companions who were distributing sacrificial meat.

İbrahim Yaz, Vice President of the Şehitler Kervanı Platformu, criticized the perpetrators, stating they used the Kobani events as a pretext to target Muslims and their property. He compared the level of violence to extreme external atrocities and emphasized the community's resolve to stand against such oppression.

Legal perspectives highlight perceived gaps in the justice process. Attorney Abdulgani Orhan noted that while many individuals directly involved in the physical acts received sentences, there has been a lack of effective prosecution against those accused of instigating the violence or state officials deemed negligent. Orhan stated that although trials related to the Kobani cases have commenced in Ankara, no specific punishments have been handed out for the incitement or direction of the 6-8 October events.
