6-year-old girl in critical condition after boat capsizes off Ubatuba, Brazil
A motor launch carrying 12 people capsized near Itamambuca beach in Ubatuba, São Paulo, on July 29 amid strong winds. Two local boatmen rescued all occupants from the water before official responders arrived. The maritime fire brigade (GBMar) provided pre‑hospital care to seven victims – four children and three adults. The most serious case was a six‑year‑old girl who inhaled a large amount of water, was intubated and remains sedated in intensive care at the Hospital Regional do Litoral Norte in Caraguatatuba. The remaining passengers suffered only minor injuries or exhaustion and were treated on the beach. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the capsizing, with the severe wind identified as the primary factor.
