63‑year‑old cyclist Pedro Paiva missing in Baixo Mondego, Portugal

Police and the National Republican Guard (GNR) are conducting extensive searches for 63‑year‑old Pedro Paiva, who disappeared while cycling between Figueira da Foz and Montemor‑o‑Velho on 20 July. The GNR was alerted a week later and has deployed patrols, drones, tracking dogs and aerial units across rice fields and agricultural paths near the Pontes de Maiorca area. Mobile phone location data placed his device in the parish of Ferreira‑a‑Nova, close to the border of the two municipalities. Authorities say the search will continue until Paiva is found.

Paiva, a well‑known local figure who played basketball in the 1980s, was last heard from by his sister in the late afternoon of 20 July. He had told her he was near the old national road EN 111 when contact was lost. The investigation remains open, with no indication yet of foul play.
