68‑year‑old arrested for illegal water and electricity theft in Montodine, Italy
Italian police arrested a 68‑year‑old man in Montodine after discovering a scheme that illegally supplied water and electricity to a group of caravans. Technicians from the local water utility found a tampered water meter and a re‑activated electricity connection in an abandoned building’s courtyard. The suspect, already known to law enforcement, admitted to modifying both systems to provide continuous service to the occupants. Four other individuals, aged 18 to 38, were also charged with the same offenses. The illegal connections were removed, and the suspect was detained pending a court hearing in Cremona, where he was released under judicial supervision.
The case highlights ongoing challenges with utility theft in Italy and the cooperation between water‑service technicians and the Carabinieri in detecting and prosecuting such crimes.
