7 Up documentary series concludes with final installment 70 Up

The long-running documentary series ‘7 Up’ is reaching its conclusion with the airing of the final installment, ‘70 Up’, on ITV. Originally beginning in 1964, the experimental series followed 14 children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds every seven years to observe how class and upbringing shaped their lives.

The final episode features a poignant appearance by scientist Nick Hitchon, who filmed his interview just three days before his death at age 65. Having previously disclosed a terminal cancer diagnosis in the ‘63 Up’ episode, Hitchon requested that his final scenes be included in the series.

While most of the original cast members have participated throughout the decades, the final chapter marks the end of a project that has been recognized as one of the most influential television programs of the last 50 years.
