7-year-old Serbian girl rescued from pool vacuum in Bogatić
A seven‑year‑old girl from Novi Sad was pulled into a strong vacuum at the bottom of a public pool in Bogatić, Serbia, and could not surface. Witnesses reported that the child had no pulse, was not breathing and had fully constricted pupils after being underwater for an estimated four to five minutes.
Swimmers managed to free her and pull her onto the poolside, where pediatrician Dr Milica Matić, who was present with her family, began immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the grass without any medical equipment. Within ten to fifteen minutes the girl regained consciousness, was able to answer questions about pain, and is now recovering.
Dr Matić told reporters that the rapid response saved the child’s life, noting the rarity of such a quick recovery in field conditions.
