7-Zip releases version 26.03 with security fixes and Linux performance boosts

The open-source archiving tool 7-Zip has released version 26.03, which introduces critical security fixes and performance enhancements. A primary focus of the update is addressing vulnerability CVE-2026-58052. This flaw involved the inconsistent handling of the ‘Mark-of-the-Web’ (MotW) security mechanism in Windows when extracting specially crafted archives, which could potentially bypass security warnings for files downloaded from the internet.

For Linux users, the update provides a performance boost. By utilizing ‘huge pages,’ the software achieves approximately 10% faster compression speeds in Linux environments.

Additionally, NanaZip has updated its base to 7-Zip 26.03. This release introduces a new rolling-release model to streamline updates and improve bug fixes. Other improvements in NanaZip include corrections to UTF-8 password extraction for WinZip AES, synchronization of the BLAKE3 implementation, and various UI fixes.
