70,000 Palestinians Pray at Al‑Aqsa as Israeli Limits Intensify

On Friday, May 27, 2026, more than 70,000 Palestinian worshippers gathered at the Al‑Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem to perform the Friday prayer despite restrictions imposed by Israeli forces. Organizers urged a massive presence to protect the religious and historic character of the site and called on Palestinians from East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Israel to attend.

Israeli security personnel conducted identity checks, turned away dozens of young men and allowed only elderly worshippers after thorough screening. The Palestinian Information Center reported recent settler incursions and incidents of desecration at the compound, prompting further calls for continuous mobilization at Al‑Aqsa.

The coordinated effort reflects ongoing tensions over control of the holy site, with Palestinian groups seeking to maintain a strong, visible presence while Israeli authorities enforce tighter security measures.
