72-year-old woman injured in British Columbia grizzly bear attack

A 72-year-old woman was seriously injured in a defensive grizzly bear attack near Gold Bridge, about 50 kilometres northwest of Lillooet in British Columbia's interior. The Conservation Officer Service said the female bear was accompanied by at least one cub.

The service responded with a three‑member predator‑attack team, an emergency‑room doctor, a fire crew and a search‑and‑rescue medic, deploying them by helicopter. The victim was airlifted by BC Ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment. Conservation officers returned to the site the following day to collect evidence and retrieve the woman's personal items. No bears were removed or killed, and no capture devices will be set. Warning signs have been installed, and officials advise hikers to share travel plans and follow wildlife‑safety best practices.
