76-year-old Palermo tourist dies at Marmarico Falls in Calabria
A 76-year-old tourist from Palermo died while visiting the Marmarico Falls in Bivongi, province of Reggio Calabria, Italy. After completing an ascent to the waterfall on a hot day, he entered the cold water at the base of the 100‑metre drop and suffered a sudden, severe medical emergency.
Rescue teams, including an air ambulance, were dispatched, but the rugged terrain made access difficult and the helicopter could only land nearby. Despite prompt medical attention, the victim could not be revived. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of death, with the temperature contrast between the hot air and cold water considered a possible factor.
