78-year-old German senior falls victim to shock‑call scam, hands over four‑digit cash sum

A 78‑year‑old woman in Bad Kissing, Germany, became the target of a so‑called shock‑call scam on Tuesday afternoon. Scammers first called, with a woman posing as the senior's daughter claiming to have caused a serious traffic accident, then an alleged prosecutor demanded a large four‑digit cash payment to avoid a prison sentence. Between 11:45 a.m. and noon an unknown man arrived at the senior’s address on Breslauer Straße and the victim handed over the cash before the man fled. The Würzburg criminal police are investigating the incident and have asked witnesses to report any suspicious activity in the area. Police warn that authorities, prosecutors or courts never request cash or valuables to prevent a prison term and advise potential victims to end the call, contact relatives directly, and alert police.
