81-Year-Old Austrian Found Dead After Lake Search in Kitzbühel

An 81‑year‑old Austrian rode his e‑bike to the Schwarzsee in Kitzbühel on Friday morning to swim. When he failed to return home, his wife filed a missing‑person report with the Kitzbühel police. A large rescue operation was launched, involving the water‑rescue service, the volunteer fire brigade, a police dog unit, a civilian dog team and additional police officers.

After several hours of searching, divers from the water‑rescue service recovered the man's body just after 1 a.m. on Saturday in water about 1.5 metres deep near the lake’s northern shore. The on‑scene medical examiner pronounced him dead, and the Innsbruck prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
