81‑year‑old Salvatore Stinga rides 100 km daily along the Amalfi Coast

Salvatore Stinga, an 81‑year‑old cyclist from Castellammare di Stabia, rides more than 100 km each outing across the Peninsular Sorrentina and the Amalfi Coast, climbing from sea level to Agerola and finishing in Sorrento. His routine, which he pursues year‑round, has made him a familiar sight for motorists and locals, symbolising resilience and a lifelong passion for cycling.

In a separate story, Sergio, a 60‑year‑old retired worker originally from Brescia and now living in Rimini, has become known as the “Pantani look‑alike”. He regularly rides in a replica of Marco Pantani’s 1997 Tour de France jersey, a garment he received from Pantani’s mother, Tonina Belletti. Sergio says the kit connects him to the legend of the “Pirata” and he often rides routes reminiscent of the Tour, keeping the memory of the celebrated Italian cyclist alive.

Both men illustrate how cycling continues to inspire Italians of all ages, turning personal dedication into local symbols of endurance and admiration for the sport’s history.
