Giuseppe Macaione, 82, earns high‑school diploma in Livorno

Giuseppe Macaione, an 82‑year‑old born near Cefalù in Sicily, completed his high‑school diploma in electrotechnics at the Itis Galilei evening school in Livorno, Tuscany. After leaving school at 18, he worked for the railways and then the Italian Post Office for more than three decades. Following retirement, he resumed his youthful passion for electrotechnics, studying at home with the help of a literature teacher and attending night classes alongside much younger classmates. He paused his studies last year to care for his ill wife, then returned to finish the three‑year program and passed the national maturity exam. The institute’s director, Antonio Manfredini, described him as a concrete example that age does not limit achievement.
