99Food and Keeta offer bonuses during São Paulo delivery strike

During a national strike by delivery workers on Tuesday, the platforms 99Food and Keeta offered financial bonuses to drivers who continued working in São Paulo. These incentives reached up to R$ 9 per completed delivery in certain areas and time slots.

Keeta provided bonuses of R$ 7 in various regions and R$ 9 specifically in the Perdizes neighborhood between 11:49 and 13:00. 99Food implemented tiered promotions, offering R$ 3 extra per delivery between 11:30 and 12:20, followed by R$ 7 extra per delivery in the São Paulo metropolitan area between 12:20 and 13:00.

The timing of these payments may lead to legal challenges regarding labor rights. The Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) notes that offering prizes or incentives to discourage participation in a strike can violate the right to strike. While the Superior Labor Court (TST) has previously condemned companies for such practices, the legal status of app delivery workers remains a subject of ongoing judicial debate, as platforms argue these professionals are independent contractors.
