A Coruña beach rescues occur amid yellow weather alerts

Two separate rescue incidents involving swimmers have occurred in A Coruña, Spain, during a period of yellow weather alerts for coastal phenomena.

In one incident at Riazor beach, a woman was swept away by heavy waves while reading near the shore. A group of citizens formed a human chain to reach her and pull her back to the beach after an initial attempt by a single individual failed. Local police arrived at the scene, but the rescue was completed by bystanders. The woman was transported to a hospital by emergency services due to apparent hypothermia.

In a second incident at Orzán beach, a man had to be rescued after strong undertows prevented him from returning to shore. This marks the second such rescue in less than 24 hours. The Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (Aemet) had issued a yellow alert for the northwest of A Coruña province, citing northwest combined seas exceeding four meters.
