A Coruña council approves plan for 500 new public homes in Xuxán

The A Coruña city council voted to amend the local General Urban Plan, re‑classifying tertiary land in the Xuxán neighbourhood to residential use. The amendment will enable the construction of more than 500 public‑sector housing units and includes road upgrades to improve neighbourhood mobility.

Separately, almost 3,000 registered applicants in A Coruña will be invited to a notary‑supervised lottery on 14 July for a total of 18 public rental apartments – four two‑bedroom units on San Andrés street and fourteen two‑bedroom units in Xuxán. The scheme gives priority to families whose head is under 36 years old and applies income limits based on the IPREM index. Rents are set at roughly €130‑€190 per month. Successful tenants will sign seven‑year contracts, renewable annually, with a ban on sub‑letting.
