A Coruña prepares for solar eclipse, cruise arrivals and scientific congresses

A Coruña is preparing for a high-activity period on August 12, driven by a solar eclipse and a significant influx of maritime tourism. The Port Authority expects six cruise ships to arrive, bringing a total of 17,678 visitors, including 12,052 passengers and 5,626 crew members. This influx is estimated to generate an economic impact of two million euros for the city and its metropolitan area. A deployment of approximately 200 personnel, including port police, private security, and pilots, will manage the operations.

Simultaneously, the solar eclipse has drawn international scientific interest to the region. Various scientific congresses are being held in the city, including the ‘New Frontiers in Cosmology’ international meeting, organized by the University of A Coruña in collaboration with the Berkeley Center for Cosmological Physics and the Simons Foundation. Additionally, the CITIC is hosting the ‘Third Solar MHD Conference’ to discuss solar physics and atmospheric simulations. Scientists are using the event to promote citizen science and increase public knowledge regarding solar phenomena.
