Netflix renews ‘A Different World’ revival for second season

Netflix has officially renewed the revival of the sitcom ‘A Different World’ for a second season following the success of its first 10-episode installment. The series, which centers on a new generation of students at the fictional Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Hillman College, reached the Top 10 in 15 countries and achieved significant viewership on the platform.

Showrunner Felicia Pride and executive producer Debbie Allen credited the renewal to strong audience engagement. The first season follows Deborah Wayne, the daughter of original characters Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, as she navigates her freshman year. The upcoming sophomore season is expected to follow Deborah and her classmates as they return to campus.

Amid the renewal news, fans have speculated about the potential return of Lisa Bonet, who played the iconic Denise Huxtable in the original series. While the revival included a cliffhanger involving Denise, original cast members Jasmine Guy and Cree Summer suggested that a return for Bonet remains uncertain, noting that the actress may have chosen a different path in life.
