A Different World HBCU Tour Boosts College Enrollment
Nearly four decades after the sitcom *A Different World* first aired, the series' cast embarked on a 2024 HBCU College Tour, visiting campuses across the United States to promote historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and raise scholarship funding. The tour aimed to introduce a new generation to the fictional Hillman College and encourage enrollment at real HBCUs.
The show previously contributed to a rise in HBCU enrollment, with a 25% increase recorded between 1976 and 1994 after the series debuted. Following the recent tour, Howard University reported a notable uptick in prospective student interest and additional scholarship contributions, underscoring the enduring cultural and educational impact of the program.
