Spain: Regional governments announce housing and fiscal measures

Various Spanish regional governments are implementing new policies to address housing accessibility and economic pressures. In the Balearic Islands, President Marga Prohens announced significant tax relief for first-time homebuyers, including the elimination of property transfer and documented legal act taxes for individuals under 36 and people with disabilities. The plan also includes a new tax deduction to encourage savings for young people and the construction of dedicated housing for healthcare and teaching professionals.

In Galicia, the Xunta is significantly increasing its housing budget. The public housing company Vipugal will see its budget nearly triple to 224.3 million euros for 2027, with over 200 million euros earmarked for new construction projects in areas such as Lugo, Ferrol, and A Coruña.

In Extremadura, the 2027 budget proposal includes measures to help residents under 40 finance property transfer taxes by having the administration assume the costs of commissions and interest on loans for homes priced up to 200,000 euros. Meanwhile, in the Canary Islands, President Fernando Clavijo is demanding the central government fulfill pending financial transfers for housing and infrastructure.
