A Noiva Difícil wins Best Direction at Venice Film Festival

The film “A Noiva Difícil”, directed by Rubaiyat Hossain, has won the Bisato d'Oro for Best Direction at the Venice Film Festival. The award was presented by independent critics.

A co-production involving Portugal and Bangladesh, along with France, Germany, and Norway, the film was featured in the “Orizzonti” competitive section. The jury noted that Hossain’s work focuses on women and the social structures that shape their lives, describing the film as a surreal exploration where the body becomes a source of resistance.

The production features cinematography by Leonor Teles and received financial support from the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual. Midas Filmes, the Portuguese producer and distributor, reported that the film has seen significant success with sold-out screenings. Following Venice, the film is scheduled to appear at festivals in Toronto, London, Tokyo, and Vienna, with a Portuguese premiere expected in spring 2027.
