A. R. Rahman launches ‘Tamil Idol’ talent hunt in Tamil Nadu
Oscar-winning music composer A. R. Rahman has launched ‘Tamil Idol’, a statewide talent hunt designed to discover and nurture new singing talent across Tamil Nadu. Unveiled by Sony Vizha, the competition marks the first Tamil edition of the globally recognized singing format.
Auditions are scheduled to open on August 18. Aspiring singers can register via the Sony LIV app, which allows for both in-person auditions and remote submissions for those unable to attend physically. To participate, applicants must upload three videos demonstrating their versatility across various musical genres.
Produced by Fremantle India, the show will be broadcast across Sony Vizha and Sony LIV, utilizing both television and digital platforms. Rahman stated that the initiative aims to provide a platform for extraordinary voices, particularly those from smaller towns and communities who may lack access to the mainstream music industry.
