CPlantae to implement nature-based water treatment at Tecate Emblema 2027
CPlantae, a company led by graduates of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), will implement its Lombrifiltro® technology at the Tecate Emblema 2027 music festival in Mexico City. This marks the first time a nature-based sanitation system will operate at a massive festival in the country.
Developed by project director José Luis Ortiz Robles, the Lombrifiltro® uses red worms, plants, and microorganisms to treat greywater from toilets and showers. The system can remove between 70% and 80% of contaminants, allowing the treated water to be reused for irrigation and other services, thereby reducing potable water consumption. The project aims to manage approximately 120,000 liters of water generated during the three-day event at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
CPlantae secured this implementation after winning the HEINEKEN Green Challenge–All Stars 2026. The company has previously installed systems in regions including Quintana Roo, Los Cabos, Oaxaca, and Puebla.
