A2 motorway in Basel faces ongoing construction and traffic delays

Roadwork on the Basel Osttangente (A2) motorway in Switzerland is continuing as planned. The intensive construction phase, which involves resurfacing, is scheduled to last until October 5, 2026.

Recent weekend work near the Schwarzwald tunnel was completed successfully, though it caused significant traffic congestion. To prevent backups in the St. Johann and Horburg tunnels, authorities diverted traffic from Germany onto local roads during peak congestion periods. Travelers from Germany experienced delays of up to 45 minutes. Night shifts and weekday disruptions are expected to continue throughout the construction period.
