A22 motorway to feature real-time car vs. train travel comparisons
ASFINAG and ÖBB have launched a pilot project on the A22 Donauufer Autobahn to provide commuters with real-time information regarding travel times. Starting Tuesday at 6:00 AM, new overhead digital displays near the Stockerau junction will compare the current travel time to Vienna by car versus by train.
The displays will integrate multiple real-time data streams, including ASFINAG traffic data, A22 travel times, occupancy levels at the local Park-and-Ride facility, and schedule information for the more than 60 daily trains running from Stockerau to Praterstern. In addition to travel time comparisons, the signs will show the departure time of the next available train and the number of free parking spaces available.
Transport Minister Peter Hanke described the initiative as a move toward a multimodal future, emphasizing that the goal is to provide commuters with reliable information to help them choose the fastest route. ASFINAG officials noted that the project aims to offer optimal mobility options rather than simply diverting drivers away from motorways.
