A24 Elden Ring film reportedly has $200 million budget

The live-action film adaptation of the video game Elden Ring is expected to be the most expensive production in A24's history. According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, the project carries a production budget of nearly $200 million, a figure that does not include marketing costs.

This investment represents a massive shift for the studio, which has traditionally built its reputation on independent, mid-budget auteur films. For comparison, the studio's previous highest-budget film, Marty Supreme, cost approximately $70 million, while Alex Garland's Civil War cost around $50 million. If confirmed, the Elden Ring budget would be nearly triple the studio's previous record.

Written and directed by Alex Garland, the film is being produced in partnership with Bandai Namco Entertainment. The project is being filmed for IMAX and is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 3, 2028. The cast includes Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, and Nick Offerman.

The film adapts the dark fantasy world of the 2022 FromSoftware hit, which features world-building contributions from George R. R. Martin. Principal photography reportedly took place in the United Kingdom and Iceland, concluding in July.
