A24 horror-comedy ‘Y2K’ set for Japan release

The A24-produced horror-comedy film ‘Y2K’ is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release in Japan on December 25, 2025. Produced by Jonah Hill and directed by Kyle Mooney, the film explores an alternate history of the ‘Year 2000’ problem.

Set on December 31, 1999, the story follows high school students Eli, Danny, and Laura. As the clock strikes midnight, the anticipated computer glitch manifests as a global catastrophe where household appliances, computers, and electronic devices gain sentience and begin attacking humanity.

The film stars Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, and Julian Dennison. It blends science fiction horror with nostalgic 1990s elements and teen comedy.
