Backrooms horror film heads to digital platforms on July 14
A24 announced that the horror film *Backrooms* will be available for digital purchase and rental on Tuesday, July 14, just 46 days after its theatrical debut on May 29. The release will be offered through major digital retailers including Prime Video, Apple TV, Google TV, YouTube Movies & TV and Fandango at Home, with pre‑orders already listed at $24.99.
The movie has become A24’s biggest box‑office success, grossing nearly $350 million worldwide and more than $190 million in the United States, making it the company’s highest‑grossing release and the first to top $350 million. Directed by 21‑year‑old Kane Parsons, the film stars Oscar nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. An extended theatrical version titled “Everything Must Go” began showing on July 3, but A24 has not confirmed which cut will appear in the digital release.
A streaming debut on HBO Max is expected in September, while a physical media release has not yet been scheduled. The accelerated digital rollout follows a rapid viral surge on social media and strong international box‑office performance, prompting the distributor to move the home‑release forward.
