A3 motorway in Basel to face nighttime closures
The Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) has announced nighttime closures on the A3 motorway's North Tangent in Basel to facilitate the removal of an old fire detection system. Following the successful installation and commissioning of a new system utilizing linear heat detectors, the previous smoke detector system is being decommissioned.
Due to high daytime traffic volumes, the removal work will take place at night. Closures are scheduled for the section between Basel-Euro Airport and the Wiese junction, in the direction of Switzerland, from September 21 to October 9, 2026. These closures will occur Monday through Friday, between 20:00 and 05:00. During these hours, traffic will be diverted through the local road network.
The North Tangent is a approximately 3-kilometer stretch of the A3 that connects the A2 motorway at the Wiese junction to the French border at the St-Louis crossing, encompassing the St. Johann Tunnel, Dreirosenbrücke, and Horburg Tunnel.
