A39 motorway expansion in Germany may begin in October

Construction on the A39 motorway expansion in Germany may begin as early as next month, despite years of planning delays and legal challenges. The project aims to connect the region with Lüneburg.

A recent ruling by the Federal Administrative Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by the environmental organization BUND, which had contested the project due to its proximity to the 273-hectare Vogelmoor nature reserve. This ruling has made the planning approval for the section between Weyhausen and Ehra legally binding.

While the court decision provides a path forward, previous progress was hindered by a lack of funding. However, recent reports suggest that work on the 14.2-kilometer segment, which is part of a larger 105-kilometer expansion project, could commence in October.
