A4 motorway near Przemyśl sees minimal traffic levels

A section of the A4 motorway near Przemyśl has become one of the least utilized stretches of the national high-speed road network in Poland. According to data from the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), the segment sees only approximately 2,500 vehicles per day, a volume comparable to local roads.

Originally designed to serve as a vital communication corridor toward Ukraine, the route has failed to meet traffic expectations. Drivers frequently bypass this section in favor of other border crossings, such as Medyka, which remains significantly more popular than the Korczowa crossing located at the end of this A4 segment.

This low traffic density is also observed on other eastern expressways, including the S22 toward Russia and the S19 near the Belarusian border, where daily traffic is recorded at roughly 1,300 to 1,500 vehicles. This represents a significant decrease compared to 2020 levels. In contrast, traffic in central and western Poland remains high, with daily volumes around Warsaw exceeding 100,000 vehicles.
