Dortmund A40 motorway closed for renovation amid regional roadworks
Several major road closures and maintenance works are affecting transit in Germany and Austria.
In Germany, the A40 motorway near Dortmund is closed from Monday evening until Friday morning in the direction of Essen. The closure, occurring between Dortmund-West and Dortmund-Lütgendortmund, is necessary for asphalt renovation. This work prepares the route to handle increased traffic when the adjacent A45 is closed for eight months starting in April 2027 for bridge reconstruction. Drivers are being diverted via the A45, A448, and A43.
In Austria, the Achraintunnel between Dornbirn and Alberschwende will undergo multiple closures from October 19 to October 23 for maintenance and cleaning. Additionally, the Pfändertunnel near Bregenz will experience nightly single-lane traffic from Monday, October 19, to Friday, October 23, between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. These measures are part of final modernization works on the A14, with traffic toward Germany being diverted through the west tube.
