A50 rush hour lane closure to continue for weeks due to trees

The rush hour lane on the A50 motorway between Apeldoorn and Arnhem will remain closed for at least another two weeks due to overhanging tree branches. This closure, which has been in effect since August 10, is causing significant daily traffic congestion during morning and evening peak hours.

According to Rijkswaterstaat, the branches obstruct the view of safety cameras. This prevents traffic controllers from performing the mandatory safety inspections of the rush hour lane and emergency bays required to open the lane safely.

Immediate pruning is not possible because an ecologist must first inspect the area to comply with Dutch environmental regulations. Once the inspection is complete, work can be scheduled, which will require contractors to manage additional traffic diversions. Rijkswaterstaat noted that this is a recurring issue, as the same lane was closed for three weeks last year for the same reason.
