A69 motorway toll prices spark controversy in France

The upcoming opening of the A69 motorway between Castres and Toulouse in early November has triggered significant backlash regarding toll costs. The concessionaire, Atosca, released a pricing structure that makes the route one of the most expensive in France, costing approximately 1.6 times the national average.

A round trip for a standard thermal vehicle between Castres and Toulouse is estimated at 20.40 euros, factoring in the A69 segment and the A680 connection. While public subsidies were previously considered to lower these rates, a Council of State opinion has prevented such reductions on certain sections.

Local officials, including Tarn deputy Jean Terlier and Castres-Mazamet community president Olivier Fabre, have expressed frustration, noting that high costs may undermine the project's goal of improving regional connectivity. The officials have requested an urgent meeting with Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot to address the issue of infrastructure acceptability.

To mitigate costs, Atosca is offering a 20% discount for eligible electric and hydrogen vehicles. Additionally, subscription options such as 'Mon Pass A69' and 'Fréquence A69' are available to provide discounts for regular commuters.
