Açaí harvest in Pará expected to cut prices by up to 40%

The açaí harvest in the Brazilian state of Pará is slated to begin in August, bringing a surge in fruit supply that should lower retail prices. Industry leaders anticipate a price reduction of roughly 30‑40%, with the average cost of a litre of medium‑quality açaí expected to fall from R$40‑R$45 during the off‑season to around R$26‑R$28.

Despite the optimistic price outlook, producers warn that the harvest may be modest because unusually high temperatures this year could limit fruit yields. Supply from the Macapá region has already dwindled, raising transport costs and leaving local markets in Belém reliant on a limited stock from nearby islands. The Associação dos Vendedores Artesanais de Açaí de Belém e Região Metropolitana (Avabel), represented by president Carlos Alberto Noronha, expects the situation to improve as the season progresses, but notes that vendors have yet to recover profits lost during the previous off‑season.

Overall, the upcoming harvest is expected to increase availability and improve the quality of açaí pulp, while offering consumers more affordable prices.
