AAA executive explains reasoning behind WWE acquisition

AAA executive Dorian Roldán has provided insight into the reasons behind Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s acquisition by WWE in April 2025. Roldán stated that the sale was driven by a desire to fulfill the original vision of AAA founder and Roldán’s uncle, Antonio Peña, who aimed to make Mexican wrestling a global attraction.

While AAA previously attempted to expand through partnerships with Hollywood figures such as MGM, Robert Rodriguez, and Mark Burnett, Roldán noted that these efforts faced obstacles in reaching the desired scale. He described the WWE deal as Hollywood embracing Mexican wrestling, providing the promotion with unprecedented access to global resources, including talent, production crews, design, and merchandising platforms.

Since the acquisition, AAA has increased its mainstream presence through international broadcast deals with FOX and has held shows across various United States arenas, including events in Las Vegas and Rosemont, Illinois.
