AAAU and Embry-Riddle partner to expand aviation training in Africa
The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU) in Abuja has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the United States-based Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The collaboration aims to expand aviation education, professional training, and workforce development across the African continent.
The agreement establishes a framework for academic programs, professional development, and distance learning. Starting in the 2027/2028 academic session, AAAU students will be able to take selected courses through Embry-Riddle Worldwide, allowing them to earn certificates from the American institution alongside their AAAU degrees. The two universities have also agreed to the mutual recognition of academic credits to improve the global acceptability of student qualifications.
A significant component of the partnership involves integrating academic degrees with practical flight training. The institutions are exploring a model that would allow students to obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence within a four-year degree program. Additionally, AAAU plans to establish a flying school in the second phase of the collaboration to increase access to practical flight training and bolster the supply of aviation professionals for the African market.
