The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has imposed a 1.32 million euro fine on a car rental company operating in Western Greece for tax fraud. The investigation revealed that the company had declared 132 vehicles as inactive, yet these cars were actively being rented and used in circulation.

The discrepancy was discovered during a routine on-site inspection of a rental vehicle. Using specialized digital audit applications, inspectors found that the vehicle was listed as inactive in official records while simultaneously appearing as a rented vehicle in the Digital Vehicle Registry. This finding prompted a deeper investigation into the company's entire fleet.

Under Greek law, operating a vehicle that has been declared inactive carries a fine of 10,000 euros per vehicle, in addition to circulation fees and other penalties. Following the discovery of the 132 non-compliant vehicles, the total fine reached 1.32 million euros. AADE has announced that it is expanding its audits to other car rental companies throughout Greece to identify similar violations using digital tools and data cross-referencing.
