AADE implements AI to process uninsured vehicle fine objections
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is implementing a new digital model to manage fines for uninsured vehicles. By decision of Governor Giorgos Pitsilis, two new Administrative Control Offices are being established in the Attica and Macedonia Special Financial Control Units to handle objections more efficiently.
A key component of this update is the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence system to assist in reviewing objections. The AI will process submitted documentation—such as insurance contracts or theft certificates—and generate reasoned recommendations, including a confidence index and natural language justifications. However, the AI will not make final decisions; the ultimate authority remains with human officials.
The move follows a massive volume of violations. In June alone, 32,200 fines totaling over 12.5 million euros were issued for vehicles found uninsured. Combined with previous cycles, nearly 320,000 fines and obligations have been processed. Citizens can submit objections via the ‘Cross-Checks’ application on Gov.gr within ten working days of notification.
