AADE plans to restructure tax services in Aetolia-Acarnania
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has unveiled plans to restructure tax services within the Aetolia-Acarnania region. The proposal involves creating seven new Tax Centers, a move intended to eliminate local jurisdictional responsibilities in favor of a more centralized model.
Under the new plan, the Agrinio Tax Office, which currently holds first-class administrative autonomy, would be downgraded to a simple department under the jurisdiction of the Patras Tax Center. Additionally, the Messolonghi Tax Office, currently a second-class service, would be downgraded to a Taxpayer Service Office.
Local representatives and the Association of Tax Officers in Aetolia-Acarnania have criticized the move, arguing that the centralization ignores the region's demographic challenges and fails to consult with local employees, professionals, or the community. Critics suggest the restructuring will isolate the region and disrupt the daily operations of local businesses, lawyers, and citizens.
