AADE implements electronic traceability for Greek milk and meat

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is implementing a stricter electronic traceability system for milk and meat products in Greece. The initiative aims to prevent 'hellenization'—the misleading practice of labeling products as Greek when they are produced using imported raw materials.

Key components of the plan include the use of electronic dispatch notes, the ‘Artemis 2’ system, and electronic barcodes for all products leaving producers. This digital chain will allow authorities to cross-reference the quantity of raw materials (such as milk powder) entering processing units with the volume of final products (like yogurt or cheese) entering the market.

In a separate regulatory update, AADE has clarified requirements for mandatory electronic invoicing. Businesses with gross revenues up to 1 million euros based on 2023 data may utilize a transition period until December 31, 2026, to gradually adapt to the new electronic regime.

Additionally, AADE is activating automated procedures to determine tax liabilities and issue assessments for taxpayers who fail to submit required income or VAT declarations, utilizing data from banks, employers, and utility companies.
