Čačak prosecutors initiate proceedings against minors for school sexual harassment

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Čačak has initiated preparatory proceedings against two minors following an incident of sexual harassment at the ‘Tatomir Anđelić’ elementary school in Mrčajevci. The incident, which occurred in mid-June, involved a third minor who cannot face legal proceedings or educational measures because they are under the age of 14.

Authorities stated that the victim suffered sexual harassment, though they clarified that no rape or more severe abuse occurred. A request to begin the preparatory process was submitted to the juvenile judge of the Higher Court in Čačak on August 14. During this process, the involved minors, the victim, and witnesses will provide statements alongside their legal representatives.

The prosecutor's office denied allegations of a cover-up, noting that police and juvenile prosecutors were notified within 24 hours of the event. The school has since moved the participating students to remote learning until conditions for their return are met, while the victim continues regular in-person schooling.
