Aalborg University Hospital opens new research animal facility
The Biomedical Research Laboratory, a new research animal facility for Aalborg University Hospital, has officially opened in North Jutland, Denmark. Located near the hospital, the facility replaces older premises in Aalborg's city center.
The modern facility is designed to enhance medical research, clinical development, and the training of healthcare professionals. It includes specialized operating rooms for minor procedures on animals, improved infection control, and enhanced facilities for animal handling, activation, and training. The site provides capacity for more advanced research projects and accommodates various species, including pigs, minipigs, and rabbits.
Professor Benedict Kjærgaard, manager of the laboratory, stated that the new premises match the ambitions for research, education, and innovation at a modern university hospital while ensuring high animal welfare and improved working conditions for staff. Regional Council Chairman Mads Duedahl noted that the investment supports the region's goal to be a leader in research.
