Aalsmeer launches Climate Week and urges housing developers to apply for electricity capacity

The Dutch municipality of Aalsmeer will host a Climate Week from 2 to 8 November, featuring community‑run activities such as clothing swaps, garden greening, neighborhood dinners, a climate pub quiz and talks on energy saving. Organisers Theo Bergonje, Berry and community manager Eva of Buurkracht are calling on residents, businesses and organisations to propose events and help make the week a success.

At the same time, Aalsmeer’s council has asked developers of new housing projects of more than one unit to submit pre‑applications for electricity network capacity under a national transition scheme. The one‑off allocation, managed by grid operator Liander, is intended to secure remaining capacity before a new distribution system takes effect in 2027. Applications must be filed by 1 October, after which the municipality will rank projects and forward the list to Liander. Councilor Sybrand de Vries said the measure is a last chance for developers to obtain the needed power supply despite growing network congestion.
