AAOS Shoulder & Elbow Registry releases 2026 annual report

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has released the 2026 Shoulder & Elbow Registry (SER) Annual Report, which documents 73,478 procedures. This represents a 25.3% increase in reported procedures compared to the 2025 report. The registry now includes 823 surgeons across 159 facilities in 41 states.

Key findings from the report indicate that reverse total shoulder arthroplasty now accounts for 52.7% of reported shoulder arthroplasties, surpassing anatomic total shoulder arthroplasties, which stood at 35.1%. Additionally, the use of subacromial decompression during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair continues to decline, appearing in 39.5% of repairs.

For the first time, the report includes implant component-level data to provide more detailed information for clinicians and industry stakeholders. In conjunction with these findings, Enovis has become the first industry sponsor to support multiple AAOS registries, expanding its existing support of the American Joint Replacement Registry to include the SER through 2027.
