AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar released after alleged illegal detention by Delhi Police

The Delhi High Court has closed a habeas corpus petition regarding the alleged illegal detention of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kuldeep Kumar after Delhi Police confirmed he was released at approximately 3:48 PM on Tuesday.

The controversy began around 4:00 AM when AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bharadwaj and Arvind Kejriwal, alleged that roughly 20 plainclothes officers detained Kumar from his residence. The party claimed the detention was an attempt to silence Kumar while he supported sanitation workers protesting the death of a colleague, Anil, in Kalyanpuri. Protesters have been demanding ₹1 crore in compensation and a permanent government job for the deceased worker's family.

AAP officials further alleged that police damaged property, including destroying CCTV cameras and seizing a digital video recorder (DVR) during the incident. While the High Court noted the purpose of the plea was fulfilled by Kumar's release, legal counsel indicated that the MLA may still seek compensation for the alleged illegal detention and property damage.
