AAP MLAs demand action against Amit Shah over Gurdwara Bangla Sahib incident
A delegation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs from Punjab met with Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gadgar at the Akal Takht on Monday to submit a memorandum regarding an incident at Gurdwara Shri Bangla Sahib. The lawmakers are demanding action against Union Home Minister Amit Shah following reports that Delhi Police personnel entered the holy shrine while wearing shoes and without covering their heads while pursuing protesters.
The AAP representatives described the incident as a serious violation of the sanctity of Sikh religious institutions. They expressed deep concern that the event has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community, drawing parallels to the historical trauma of Operation Blue Star.
During the meeting, the MLAs also criticized the silence of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami regarding the matter. Legislators Inderbir Singh Nijjar and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated that while students may have entered the premises to seek refuge from the police, this does not justify officers entering the sacred space without following religious protocols.
