AAP questions Delhi government bicycle procurement costs

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised allegations of financial irregularities regarding the Delhi government’s purchase of 130,000 bicycles intended for schoolgirls. AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj held a press conference to compare a government-distributed bicycle with a retail model purchased by the party.

Bharadwaj claimed that while the retail bicycle cost ₹4,200, the government purchased the bulk order at ₹6,957 per unit. He alleged that the government-supplied bicycles utilize cheaper, local components, such as plastic brake levers and low-cost tyres, whereas the retail version featured aluminum levers and branded Metro tyres.

Additionally, the AAP questioned the authenticity of the branding on the government bicycles, noting a ‘Skyler’ sticker on models despite the company having discontinued that specific model a year ago. The party intends to present both bicycles to the Chief Minister and Education Minister to demand an explanation for the price discrepancy and quality differences.
