Aarau shooting: Parents of suspect apologize to victims
The parents of Julien G., the 43-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the mass shooting in Aarau, have issued a public apology to the victims. The attack, which occurred following a techno party, resulted in one death and six injuries after the suspect fired approximately 40 shots into a crowd.
In statements to the newspaper ‘Le Quotidien Jurassien’, the parents expressed deep regret and noted that the suspect had been diagnosed with schizophrenia over 20 years ago. While he had previously been hospitalized in a psychiatric facility, his father stated that he had not taken medication for some time despite suggestions to seek medical care. The family also disputed police claims regarding the suspect's military service, asserting he had never served in the military.
Questions remain regarding how the suspect obtained a Kalashnikov and other firearms. The father expressed hope that this tragedy might lead to closing administrative gaps in firearm registration and oversight in Switzerland.
